Zoe Kollias
My name is Zoe Kollias and I have always been drawing or painting since I was a kid. Six years ago I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and art became a major outlet for my anxiety and conveying how I felt when I could not find the words. I want others to learn that art, no matter the skill level, can not only be something fun to do but also a release of stress and emotional distress. I aim to send this message to people as I move on with my education.

An in-depth look at their work:

With my piece we were instructed to make an image from a coloring book look strange, disturbing, or scary. At first it was hard to try to manipulate images into a totally different portrayal- however once I chose the cropped image of a My Little Pony eyeball sideways- I completed this piece in no time. Having such freedom of choice really excited me to take advantage of this HUGE blank paper. I struggled with taking steps back to view my work- even though I know this is key to creating great work- I usually have my face right up to my piece. However, stepping back and exploring different mark making helped me create a truly ambiguous and disturbing image. This may be one of my favorite pieces I have ever made.
